NAVIGATING THE WAITLIST

·2 min read

People waiting in the sultry neon-lit hallway outside a premium studio

The class drops on Sunday at noon. By 12:01, it's completely locked. You are staring at position 14 on the waitlist, wondering if there is any mathematical possibility that 14 people will suddenly change their weekend plans. Welcome to the standby life.

A locked class is not a closed door. It is just a test of patience.

The waitlist is a chaotic ecosystem of cancellations, late-fees, and last-minute dropouts. Understanding how it moves is essential if you want to get into the prime-time slots. But there is a right way and a wrong way to play the standby game.

The Walk-In Gamble

If you are number 1 or 2 on the waitlist, show up. Put on your gear, walk into the lobby, and wait by the desk. Every instructor knows that at 5:58 AM, somebody's alarm didn't go off. When the doors close, an empty spot is a tragedy. Be the person ready to step into it. But if you don't make it in, don't argue. Just pivot to the weight room and try again tomorrow.
