A guide
Shadowboxing the Bass
·3 min read

Jab, cross, hook, weave. In martial arts-inspired cardio classes like BodyCombat or Kickbox Cardio, you are boxing against an imaginary opponent. But your real partner is the music. The beat acts as the timing for your combinations, and the drop is the cue to release your full power.
This is non-contact combat, where speed, rhythm, and core control build explosive cardio fitness.
Because you are not hitting physical bags, the safety of your joints relies entirely on control. Do not lock out your elbows on punches or snap your knees on kicks. Keep a slight bend at the end of every strike and use your core and hips to drive the movement. The power comes from the floor, not the joint.
Stance and Guard
Keep your hands up in a high guard to protect your face, and maintain a soft, bouncy stance. This protects your lower back and keeps you ready to transition between punches and kicks. Keep your feet shoulder-width apart and your weight centered.
Channel the Intensity
Cardio combat classes are a powerful outlet. When the bass is loud and the rhythm is fast, use the strikes to release tension and clear your mind. Lock your focus on the instructor's combinations and feel the speed of the class pull you into the zone.
Ready to find your floor? The Lineup is live and the music is loud. Lock your focus and catch the beat right here.
