The Repetition Effect

In standard weight rooms, the rule is heavy loads and low reps. But in group strength classes like BodyPump or Body Works, the formula flips completely. You load a barbell with light to moderate weights, and you keep moving for track after track, hitting hundreds of repetitions per workout.

This is not about maxing out. It is about fatiguing the muscle to build lean, endurance-based power.

When you perform up to 800 repetitions in a single session, your muscles experience metabolic stress and fatigue without putting extreme force on your joints. This builds muscular endurance, burns energy, and shapes lean muscle tissue in a structured, music-driven environment.


Keep the Weight Conservative

The most common mistake is loading the bar too heavy at the start. Remember that you will be squatting or pressing to the beat for four to five minutes straight per track. Start with light weights (even empty bars or small plates) to learn the movements and match the tempo. You can always slide extra plates on later.


Focus on Form

With high repetition, clean technique is vital. Listen closely to the instructor's cues on chest height, joint alignment, and range of motion. If your form starts to break down, reduce the range or take a brief pause to reset. Safety underpins energy.
